How many times do we put off doing something or decide we're not going to because it'll be uncomfortable or painful?
I've always wanted a tattoo, but haven't because I don't think I can bear the pain!
I've given birth twice and the pain was unbelievable and that thankfully I've never experienced since!
Some people put off going to the dentist, even if they're in pain as they know it'll hurt some more just to get better.
How many times do you say, I'd love to wear high heels, but they're too uncomfortable? Or you see other women wearing heels and say "How can she walk in them!"
You probably don't even give wearing heels a second thought, you just assume it'll hurt to wear them so you don't bother.
I'm likening this to a smear test I had recently.
How many women put off having a smear test because its uncomfortable. I wasn't looking forward to my appointment, but I knew I had to have it done.
But as I walked out of the clinic, I realised that so many women are reluctant to having a smear test just like wearing heels.
It's uncomfortable, its embarrassing, etc and put off making an appointment.
The fact that tests are only required every 3 years (if you're aged 25-49) and every 5 years (if you're aged 50-64) makes it worse. You could've moved house in that time and not received the letter reminding you that your next screening is due.
Having the test and then also waiting for results can be annoying too and most women put it off for years or don't see the importance of it.
A young woman is more likely to remember to post her latest selfie on instagram and will make sure she does it, then ensure her smear tests are up to date.
I'm not saying wearing high heels are important like a smear test or good for you like eating vegetables and drinking water daily, but for the sake of an hour at an event or a few hours having cocktails, most women say no to heels, even though they secretly wish they had them on!
If this is you and you'd love the idea of wearing heels but think they're too uncomfortable, just try a pair on! They don't have to be sky scrapers or even stilettos! Most high street stores stock heels with a wider fit or with a chunky or block heel.
Try them on in the store and walk up and down. If they're too uncomfortable, then leave them. At least you tried.
And if you're the lady who avoids having a regular smear test, please find out when your next test is due and get it done. It's only a few minutes of discomfort that can save your life.
It's also less painful and less embarrasing than wearing stilettos all day and falling over.
